That type of thread comes like hanks of yarn. No wonder it was giving you so much trouble! Great tip and I'm glad you're a happy stitcher!
I do something similar. Instead of braiding it, I tie it in a knot around the label. I'll try to remember to photograph it.
You're lucky: on my blog, the anonymous guys only try to leave me some spams !!! lol
