Lucky Me

Why am I lucky? Because Dave "won" two tickets to a Nascar race next weekend. And when I say "won", I mean that he got an email from a car dealer, telling him that if he took a test drive, they'd give him two tickets. And off he went, without a word to me.

So last weekend, as we were heading out for a lovely meal and movie, the conversation in the car went like this.

Dave: Hey, guess what? I won two tickets to a Nascar race!

Me: That's awesome! Who are you going to take?

Dave: Why, you of course.

Me: Not on your life.  Not in a million years.

Dave:  Come on, it'll be fun.

Me:   Can't you take someone else? Won't it be loud?  Won't the seats be uncomfortable?  Won't it be long?  Will I have to sit in the sun all day?

Dave:  I promise, if you really hate it, we'll leave.  But we'll slather you up with sunscreen and sit in the stands and it'll be great.

Sigh. I can't wiggle my way out of this one.

Then last night I was talking with some stitching buds and hoping for a bit of commiseration. But no!  The girls said that they actually enjoy the races.  When I asked for things I could do to make me feel, if not happy to be there, at least interested in the goings-on, one of the ladies suggested that I look for cars with sponsors I liked and cheer for them.  (Do Nascar spectators cheer?  That could get really annoying) Anyways, that would make it more engaging than just watching cars "go fast and turn left" over and over.

Great idea, right?  So I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for this car.

Hmmmm.  Who could be our driver?

  2. I don't get NASCAR any more than you do but I highly doubt you'll see that car. Too funny though - they might get more women interested if 'our' companies sponsored the cars.

  11. LOL. Great car. I tried to get into NASCAR and choose to watch Jimmy Johnson, #48 because I was 48......now I am a few older and still know very little but they go around and around....take ear plugs.

  12. Wouldn't that be something to have a car with all those sponsors!?!

  13. LOL!! I feel your pain. My parents inflicted a few Talladega outings on me when I was young. HATED them. I have very sensitive hearing so I would just spend 3 hours with earplugs in. Get up on top of the station wagon on the plywood my dad would put on the roof and turn in circles for a while. Get back in the car and read. BLERG. I have friends that watch. They root for Tony Stewart and Junior and Juan Pablo Montoya. I like Carl Edwards because he has good hair, and that's about all I could tell you! =P

  16. ROFLOL! Oh my, Lee, you did it again. I'm once again completely cracking up here. Are the cars in Nascar as loud as F1? I've only been to F1 races and boy was it loud. It was fun but my ears didn't thank me for it.

    Hugs,
    Veronica.

  17. Are you going to the Poconos?
The race is here in Charlotte this weekend, i will not be headed in that direction. I have been to one race, crossed it off the bucket list. I am not planning to go to another anytime soon :)

  18. My DH is a HUGE Formula 1 fan. The F1 tracks are a little more intricate than NASCAR but I don't like going to those either. I like NASCAR even less. Take earplugs, sun screen, something soft to sit on and your patience. You will see some interesting outfits while you're there though so you might want to take a camera!

  19. What fun - your car is perfect.

I've gone to car racing events.
I people watch. With a big had, waterbottle, + sunscreen, you should have a pretty good time. Earplugs or headphones into i-pod a good plan.

  20. love love love your car!! and love love love Nascar :) Yes we cheer :) and yes wear a head gear ear plugs, it helps a lot! Which race are you going to?

The one thing about Nascar and the cars going round and round and round in one direction is to pick a driver and get involved .. learning about all the stuff that goes into racing really helps. At the very least enjoy your time with your DH :)
