Is anyone else as sick as I am of all the sweet and vomit-y Christmas commercials? On the one hand, I'm probably watching way too much television these days, but on the other hand, even a moderate amount of TV watching will give you more than your fill. It seems like if you're a man, you will be a Christmas failure if you don't cough up some fabulous and expensive jewelry. And if you're a woman, well, the only real gift that will be successful is a car.
I'm going to bet that most of you are like me and you don't let yourself get sucked into that kind of thinking. But I find myself getting so mad at the advertisers.
Fa-La-freakin' La.

The dude gets so angry at the commercials that are perversions of Christmas carols; we spend half the time with the tv on mute. I am not a fan of "oversaving." I am not oversaving if I am buying a car. I am oversaving if I am buying nothing at all. The concept just masks how like every other car dealer they are whoring their products for Christmas. But let me tell you how I really feel.
ReplyDeleteLove your new ornament! The fabric that you used for the backing is a perfect accent, too.
ReplyDeleteI agree about the commercials. I use the DVR to record most of the shows that I like so I can fast forward when the commercials come on. It disrupts my stitching flow but at least I avoid listening and seeing the same commercials over and over again, which is what I hate the most.
The stocking is lovely and I really like the backing. As for the TV ads...totally agree. So all I am going to join you..........
ReplyDeleteFa-La-freakin' La!
Cute stocking! I think I escape the commercial mess because I watch everything via dvr/tivo. I end up fastforwarding through all the adverts.
ReplyDeleteLovely stocking. Great finish.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful stocking finish! What a Christmas present it would be to be commercial free!
ReplyDeleteI love the backing fabric on your stocking; it is so perfect! I agree with you about the commercials. I have a policy of not buying anything from any company whose commercials annoy me. I am really oversaving!
ReplyDeleteI love the stocking. I especially enjoyed the fabric you used on the back.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the commercials. One that drives me especially crazy is a jewelry commercial where it thunders and she jumps and he says, "Don't worry I'm here....and I always will be." Really? That's all they could come up with to hock their jewelry. :-)
Regardless of how crazy the advertising part of Christmas makes us I do hope you have Merry One.
Very nice finish! Hope you do have a merry Christmas.
ReplyDeleteI love your stocking finish, Lee--and that backing fabric is perfect with all the different languages represented...I'm too chicken to try the stocking sewing part! Was it hard?
ReplyDeleteI dislike all commercials, not just Christmas ones, and I'm so relieved that they passed the legislation making it mandatory to lower the volume on them. Now that, to me, was extremely annoying when the commercials would start blasting you out of the room!
Love your stocking finish! The backing fabric is perfect for it.
ReplyDeleteMy dh laughs and those commercials and informs the TV that his wife would MURDER him if he gave her expensive jewelry...and he's right.
ReplyDeleteLove the Paris stocking!!!
Fantastic stocking finish! I have that on my list to stitch soon.
ReplyDeleteWe have Sky+ on our TVs--I think it's TiVO there. We record just about everything that we watch and start watching within 15 minutes or so of the start of the program. The ads are just TOO annoying.
Love your stocking! Plan to do some in the coming year...
ReplyDeleteThe best thing I pay 'the cable company' for is for the DVR...
Your little stocking is so pretty, very nicely stitched and finished.
ReplyDeleteI never watch nor listen to commercials because when they start I turn on mute and that's basically it. And besides this you can do so many things while the commercials are on as a commercial "session" takes 8 minutes over here - time enough to go to the loo, to get another cup of coffee, to get a snack, to make a short telephone call etc. - after turning the TV on mute of course, lol.
Love the stocking! Yeah, the commercials are very annoying, sounds like they're getting desperate. I sort of tune them out, and then I find myself saying, "how much did they say?" (sigh)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous stocking finish.
ReplyDeleteA lovely stocking finsh.
ReplyDeleteHave a Happy Christmas!
What a lovely stocking! I bought the pattern and plan to make it for one of my daughters (she has been to Paris about 20 times!). Your finish and the fabric is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteHappy Stitching in 2011!
Gorgeous finish :) It's a great pattern and I love the backing fabric
