This was my new start from last week's retreat. It's been on my mind since November when I saw Barb stitching it - Mary Garry's Peace Sampler. There are lots of great Quaker samplers out there (and in my basket), but I loved the deep rich colors Barb chose. So call me a copy cat. Go ahead. I don't mind. Why mess with a good thing?
I think I want to start something bright and springy, too. This is the second year that I've noticed that many of us are in the doldrums over winter weather and it's spilling into our stitching lives, too. I'm going to try adding something with a kicky color palette. Lots of yellow, I think. Yellow does it for me. And pink. And maybe I should finish putting those winter decorations away. (Notice that I didn't say "Christmas". That would be too embarrassing.)
What color brightens your mood?

Love the colour on your new sampler! I adore bright colours; they always lift my mood and I try to incorporate them in all kinds of places that my eye might rest. Mostly I have splashes of blue or red, a vase here, a picture there, a spray of flowers.... I like a lot of colours but mostly it's red and blue that do it for me.
ReplyDeleteI put away the snowmen yesterday. Enough already! It's so bright here today I am blinded. I also feel like doing some spring cleaning and washed some curtains and rotated a rug yesterday (I must be sick...). Love the new start! It looks familiar! Oh, and yes, I love the La D Da. I'm doing one now and need to post a photo.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Start :)
ReplyDeleteWhy mess with perfection is oh so right Lee! Someday I shall have this beauty in my hands to stitch. My fav colors are prim ~ the drabber the better, no gettin around it try as I might:)
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to your progress, enjoy this one!
You know, you're RIGHT! I am usually a dull sampler stitcher but I need to stitch something with actual COLOR in it. I see a visit to my OLNS in todays forecast. Wish I could just run down to the corner for my threads and things. Masterchief might have an issue with that though! :o)
ReplyDeleteLove your new start. Can't wait to see more progress.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with being a copy! YGG! I love the thread color and it's going to be gorgeous when you're finished with it.
ReplyDeleteme encanta el lino que has elegido y para el bordado estre granate también fantástico, ¡felicidades!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful start! I love the look of monochromatic Quakers.
ReplyDeleteBlues and purples actually brighten my mood. I have a beautiful sky blue sitting on my stitching table, begging me to work it into something. When I finish the obligation stitching, it will!
Nice start. Yellow tends to brighten my mood, too, especially the yellow flowers of early spring - daffodils, forsythia, etc.
ReplyDeleteRed clothing also tends to perk me up.
ROTFLOL -- putting those winter decorations away, eh? One year my mom left her mini Christmas tree up .... for 3 years! I say if it doesn't need dusting, leave it out. :)
ReplyDeleteI love your new start. You're right -- why mess with color perfection.
What a nice new start. Looking forward to watching your progress on this one. I've become very fond of the colour green in the last few years.
ReplyDeleteHa Ha - Copy Cat! It looks great and I may be 'forced' to do the same one day! ;-)
ReplyDeleteI am lusting after bright colours too. Alas, I think I am punishing myself by trying to be good and finishing an UFO from last year first! Hope I make it!
Looking forward to seeing your bright new start!
I'm sure Barb is honored that you're stitching with the same wonderful colors that she used, Lee. You're off to a great start...
ReplyDeleteYes, try a bit of pink or purple. I finished a little LK Valentine's Day piece over the weekend and it really did cheer me up! It had colors that I rarely use in my stitching and I'm so happy with the result. I'm more of a blue or autumn tones lover, but every girl needs a touch of pink, right :)
Nice new start! I'm with you... need to do some spring stitching... I am so tired of winter!
ReplyDeletehappy stitching....
Pink and yellow. I was looking for information on vintage tile and found this. I may need to redo my pink tile bathroom (it's got brown accents now).
ReplyDeletePretty start - I love the color! Bright colors brighten my mood. They're always so cheery!
ReplyDeleteLovely start! And I'd say springy colors or blues/greens or mixtures!
ReplyDeleteNice new start. Love the look of this:)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful new start! I go thru monchromatic then colorful spurts too- how funny!
ReplyDeleteDon't be embarrassed about your "winter" decorations- I JUST took down my icicle lights from the front of my house last Saturday. Of course that was becuase they have been frozen to the gutter since December! I'm SO ready for spring this year!
Lovely start! Will be watching for progress updates.
ReplyDeleteA month later than your post (I am really behind on blogs), I might or might not have some wintery (Christmas) decor on our family room mantle. Maybe. I can't say for sure.
