March is my birthday month. I'm not saying this to garner lots of presents (although cake would be nice - you know about my love affair with cake), but because I simply can't freakin' believe that I keep getting older.
I think I've had a blessed life. Nobody's life is perfect and we all have our problems, but I wouldn't change a day of it. Hopefully life has made me more gracious towards my friends, family and strangers.
I know - you're thinking, "Blah, blah, blah. What does this have to do with stitching?" Well, here's what I have on my mind.
In order to keep reminding myself about the whole "older, wiser, more gracious and better" thing, I'm going to do a little stash diving and pick one design that has been around since my very early stitching days. You all know which ones I mean. The ones that you bought in 19whatever and loved and never got around to stitching. And every time you decide to weed out your stash, you wonder why you never stitched it. Well, I'm going to choose one of those. Maybe update the fabric and thread choices a little, but at heart it'll still be an oldie but goodie. And I'm going to try to finish it before my next birthday.
Does anyone want to join me? If you want to and if you tell me about it, I'll put your name, birthday month and project over in my sidebar.
How about it?
Good idea. I'll wait until my birth month to take it up, though. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun idea!! I'd join in, but like Anna, I'd like to wait till my birth month (June). Too many obligations before that ... ;)
ReplyDeleteHmmm....maybe. Think I can get my stitching life in order by May? Could be good incentive!

That's a nice idea :) My birthday is over for this year and I don't have any really old charts, since I cull my stash fairly regularly, but I might think about doing this next year with something that's been in my stash for a while and keeps getting overlooked. Have fun with your choice!
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea, Lee. And I think I'll join you. My birthday month is also March and I know that I still have a nice number of charts that I bought when I started my stitching career but haven't stitched so far. And I still love them. I'll have a look during the next days and make my choice
ReplyDeleteThis is an awesome idea. Now, if I started soon, would I have the time before my next birthday, or my next next birthday? (July) I think I will be with Anna and others and wait until my birthday. Now to go stash diving and see what the project could be.
ReplyDeleteI'll join! My birthday month is June and I have charts going back to when the dinosaurs roamed the earth so picking one won't be hard. I was just going through my stash and kept saying to myself...why didn't you stitch this?? It was fun..like meeting up with old friends. Now, I'll get re-acquainted with one! Great idea, Lee!
ReplyDeleteI actually went stash diving recently (couple of weeks ago)-went through and picked out some projects that I HAVE to get done. One thing for myself was a little bonsai tree ornament. B-day month is May

So what you're really asking for is the iPad 2, right?
ReplyDeleteOoo. Since March is my half-year birth month, maybe I'll join you from March to March. I have a number of those projects still lurking. Let's see if I can go stash diving and find a good project between now and the 24th (my half-birthday).
ReplyDeleteOk, let's go! I have a bunch of oldies but goodies I'd like to stitch. I won't even wait until my birthday month because it's too far off.

That's an awesome idea - and I'd join you if it weren't for the fact that I really DON'T have the time this spring. - I'm also a March girl :)
ReplyDeleteI don't have any very old stuff lurking in my stash though - I was way too organized back in the early days, I didn't buy if I hadn't finished my previous project. Ah, those were the days... ;)
That's such a great idea! Goodness knows....I have so many of those!
ReplyDeleteMay have to have a look at the "old" stash and see if I can join you!
Hally Birthday. What a great idea Lee, my birthday isn't until September so if I remember I will start something old from my stash then.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday! This is my b-day month too (27th), I agree with your sentiments totally! I don't think I'd change a day in my life, its really made me who I am today and I like who I am.
ReplyDeleteI wish I had time to join you but I have a busy month ahead!!!
I love this idea! I've got a couple patterns that are my "zen" pieces...I tend to think about them when I need to get into a zone/mellow out/whatever. Maybe the time has come to stop thinking about Butternut Road's "Feathers & Friends" while I swim laps and actually stitch it? Hmmm. (My birth month is April.)
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday from another March baby! I love this idea, Lee. Please sign me up. My project will be a Cross Stitch and Country Crafts magazine stocking for my son. I don't have the magazine on hand for the name, but he chose the one depicting a boy's bedroom. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteMy official project will be Hillside Samplings Peace 2001.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic idea! I'm in, but I'll wait until closer to my birthday month to actually pick something, and I'm sure there will be more than a few things to choose from! Oh, my birthday is in July, but still sign my up please.
ReplyDeleteDoes it count that I just framed up a bunch of pieces that have been languishing in a drawer since the dawn of my stitching career? But I know exactly what you mean - I have a few in my stash that I really should stitch. I'd love to do it, but I must procrastinate a little more until I finish off some wedding pieces. And a birth sampler for a little boy who will be ONE next week. The goal is to maybe get it to him before he turns two!
ReplyDeleteSign me up, too. My birthday's not until August, but I've got at least one idea of what I could start stitching then.
