It was the last line, in particular. A Ruler. Hmmm. Nope. I thought I could substitute some other word there and but now I'm stumped.
Because - my first thought was Lover, but then it made me think of Will Farrell and Rachel Dratch doing the SNL "Lov-ahs" skits. And now that's all I can think of.
So maybe one of you can help me. The word Ruler fills a space 7 stitches high and 27 stitches wide. Any suggestions?
I don't know, maybe in a few days I'll come up with something, but for right now my brain is trapped in a Will Farrell state!

I don't know. My first though (before I read the entire post) was Lover. Maybe Suitor?
ReplyDeleteI would have to second that idea...SUITOR would fit perfectly!

Why not "spouse"
ReplyDeleteJHM
I ran spouse and suitor thru thesaurus.com.
ReplyDeleteHere are my favorites: partner, consort (old-fashioned but fits) and beloved.
JHM (yes, again)
Such a pretty chart, Lee...
ReplyDeleteI'm not crazy about the word "rule" actually... What about: "Give me a love who can win my heart? or "Send me a love who will win (or capture) my heart."
Probably too much of a change, but you know me :)
I thought lover too but not in the same context that you did!
ReplyDeleteHow about: Give me a love that can warm my heart? Or if you can squeeze in an extra letter: Give me a love that will warm my heart.
That last line is a bit weird isn't it?
Yes....just the word 'love' not lover. And then maybe 'that's ever in my heart'. I think that's one extra letter but I really don't like 'rule', either.

Well, thanks for THAT image! LoL
ReplyDeleteI like Carol's suggestion, Give me a love who will capture my heart. It's roughly the same amount of space...
Hi Lee - Wish you could make it 9 spaces - Soul Mate. Companion would be 9 spaces as well. Darn. "Love" would win it, but would you need to fill the other 3 letters?
ReplyDeleteLee - "Fancier" and "Admirer" & the Free Dictionary says that "A Friend is a Lover" - so you could use "Friend" as well.
ReplyDelete"Give me a flower to woo my heart"
ReplyDeleteHow about an entirely different direction and use the word, faith...
ReplyDeleteGreat options from everyone. Love was the word that I thought of immediately when I read the verse.
ReplyDeleteI really like Queen Bee's suggestion. I'm not one into my husband 'ruling' me and I'm not into 'obeying' much either. With love that's ever in my heart - it can be anything you love.
ReplyDeleteHow about "True Love" and "Win"? You could also change Heart to an image of a heart (<3) to give yourself more space.
ReplyDeleteI'm with the other girls ... no ruler or rule. To me, ruler and ruling have negative connotations. Asking sure got you loads of suggestions!
ReplyDeleteSwain.
ReplyDeleteHow about
ReplyDeleteGive me a mate that can steal my heart
Rule and ruler just don't work for me....I made them take out "obey" in the wedding vows...heehee.
